Ok, hear me out. Our kids generally don’t get to see big budget set piece movies because they are too scary, violent, confusing or otherwise emotionally manipulative in a way that feels bad for them.
Despite the stakes of this movie (humanity) and the two dead astronauts at the beginning, we watched this first and then decided everyone would enjoy it and it would spark great questions and discussion.
For example, the funerals for the astronauts are emotionally honest and handled well.
(worth watching first to find your threshold but spoilers that are worth knowing to reassure the little ones:
rocky doesn’t die, there’s a happy ending and the ship doesn’t crash)
